Ashley Cornelius

Ashley Cornelius is a Black queer woman, award-winning spoken word poet, and transformative storyteller whose work amplifies identity, social change, and joy. As the first Black Poet Laureate of the Pikes Peak Region, she has redefined poetry as a tool for healing, activism, and radical self-expression. Ashley is a published author, a keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, and licensed therapist. She is the codirector of Poetry719, a Black led grassroots poetry movement putting on open mics, events and workshops for the community every month. Ashley works as a full time artist across Colorado using poetry in innovative ways. Whether on stage or in intimate workshops, she creates spaces where words become bridges, fostering connection, understanding, and empowerment.

Join Poetry719 for their Black Voices Matter Open Mic showcasing the incredible Black talent in Colorado Springs.  We’ll have a writing workshop, open mic for Black artists, and a dynamic feature! Everyone is welcome to attend, the open mic is reserved for Black artists. 

Destination Rest

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

​A 2-hour community nap experience led by two Black women mental health practitioners. It features collaborative affirmation poetry, a healing sound bath, and deep rest. The event concludes with a creative art exercise and a community discussion on the importance of rest. This is an 18+ event. Contact us for accommodation if you need to bring your children.
